JEPHTE Stage performance of the oratorio Jephte performed by the top Polish early music ensemble Capella Cracoviensis. This early Baroque work treats the Old Testament story of the Israelite warrior Jephthah, who rashly promised the Lord to sacrifice to him for victory in battle what he would first see on his return... The programme will be completed by Filiberto Laurenzi’s Serenata Guerra non porta.

KRZYSZTOF GARBACZEWSKI (1983) Theatre director and set designer, known for his elaborate sets and innovative adaptations. He graduated in direction from the Ludwik Solski State Theatre School in Krakow. He studied under the director Krystian Lupa. In 2016, the spectators of the Divadlo festival have previously had the chance to see his Hamlet (Narodowy Stary teatr, Krakow).

CAPELLA CRACOVIENSIS chamber choir and orchestra is one of the most interesting ensembles on the contemporary period music scene. Its repertoire ranges from Renaissance polyphony to early Romantic operas, performed on period instruments using historical performance techniques. CC has been featured at many prestigious festivals and concerts halls, including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bachfest Leipzig, SWR Festspiele Schwetzingen, Händel Festspiele Halle, Haydn Festspiele Brühl, Opéra Royal Versailles, and Theater an der Wien. The ensemble has performed with renowned artists, such as Evelino Pidó, Christophe Rousset, Alessandro Moccia, Giuliano Carmignola, Paul Goodwin, Andrew Parrott, and Paul McCreesh. One of CC’s greatest successes was performing all Beethoven’s symphonies on historical instruments in a single day, in Krakow on 27 August 2016, with live radio transmission. The latest achievements include the first performance of Wagner’s works on historical instruments with Waltraud Meier (Wesendonck-Lieder), and recording operas by Pergolesi and Porpora for Decca Records: Pergolesi’s Adriano in Siria and Porpora’s Germanico in Germania (which received the Diapason d’Or award). In May 2018, CC launched the project “Haydn: complete symphonies”, featuring concerts and live recordings of all Haydn’s symphonies.
