„Otmorozhki", or scumbags, is the term used in the novel by Zakhar Prilepin – one of Russia's most celebrated contemporary novelists – to designate young people who were born during the collapse of the Soviet Union, grew up in the lawless, criminal 1990s and are now going out into the the streets to fight for justice. They meet for the first time with love, betrayal and death. Kirill Serebrennikov's production this year won Russia's highest theatre award, the Golden Mask.
