Paintings: Kamila Ženatá

An exhibition for the International Theater Festival in Pilsen will present a cross-section of the recent work of this distinctive and versatile artist.

Kamila Ženatá studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from 1973 to 1979 in the studio of Professor Ladislav Čepelák. Initially, she focused on graphic art, creating extensive series, and became a member of the Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Artists. After 2000, she shifted her focus to painting and drawing, gradually expanding her practice to include video, text, and site-specific installations.

Her persistent body of work is inspired by dreams, imagination, memory, and both the individual and collective unconscious. She explores themes of trauma, loss, and profound emotions, which often give her projects the character of healing rituals. Since the 1990s, she has also been involved in psychoanalytic group psychotherapy, leading closed groups, organizing workshops, and writing scholarly books, fiction, poetry, and experimental texts. In her visual art, she seeks to uncover the mysteries of nature and the human soul—inspired by Taoism, psychoanalysis, and quantum physics, she explores ways to express the inexpressible.
