Event of the season! The famous French ensemble Comédie-Française will open this year's
This year we will offer a special event - a guest appearance by the oldest and most prestigious French ensemble Comédie-Française. It is this national stage based in Paris that will open the 32nd edition of our festival on 11 and 12 September with its latest production, Hecuba, not Hecuba, directed by Portuguese playwright, director and director of the Avignon Festival, Tiago Rodrigues.
Tickets for two performances of Comédie-Française are already on sale at Plzenskavstupenka.cz.
The guest appearance of this company, whose history dates back to the time of Molière, is all the more unique because, as part of a major European tour after the world premiere at the Avignon Festival, it will be the first performance not in the open air, but in a classical theatre building. For his first staging at the Comédie-Française, Tiago Rodrigues chose the story of Hecuba, the widow of King Priam, who lost her husband, throne and children at the fall of Troy. This story is intertwined with that of the actress who plays Hecuba in our time. The ongoing rehearsals of the production are interfered with by a judicial investigation in which the actress herself seeks redress for her autistic son who has been the victim of abuse.
The 32nd edition of the International Theatre Festival will take place from 11 to 19 September and will present to Czech audiences other exceptional foreign productions as well as the traditional selection of what has been created during the past season on domestic stages. The programme will be complemented by free open-air performances, the Johan Presents section at the Moving Station, debates and an exhibition.
The full programme will be announced during July.
