In his original adaptation for the F. X. Šalda Theatre Drama Company, director Jakub Čermák reimagines the celebrated epistolary novel, familiar from film adaptations and numerous stage versions, as a work of remarkable contemporary resonance. The cynical games of seduction and manipulation as instruments of power feel unmistakably modern in this interpretation, as the rococo characters encounter themes such as activism, alongside contemporary music and visual aesthetics. This inventive and visually rich production is distinguished by outstanding performances, led by Karolína Baranová as the Marquise de Merteuil and Filip Jáša as Valmont.
